you BELONG

There's this really great moment at the end of the movie Oceans 13. One of the characters, Terry Benedick, double crosses the lead protagonist, Danny Ocean in a 'business deal' they had. To get back at him, Danny donates all of the money that Terry would have made in the confidence scheme they had going together to a charity called, 'Camp Belong', a camp for underprivileged foster children.

what I love about this whole scene is that Danny doesn't really let the fact that Terry double crossed him effect him, but he relishes in the fact that he could pin a HUGE donation to an charity to help foster children. something Danny was passionate about.

everyone wants to belong. To something. To a cause. We all want to be accepted. Just think about this......maybe its not about us. Maybe.....its not all about YOU. Maybe its about something so much more that we can even imagine. We go about our lives, trying to make our way, when really all we need to do is make a simple difference in just one person.

Make an effort today to make someone belong. Invite them to coffee. Call that person. Email that loved one.

Take the time you don't think you have to meet to reach out to someone.

Tell them your story.

Chances are, it will make all the difference.

I'm not much of a poetry writer, but I've been reading a lot on the subject lately.

There's this incredible poem by the slam poet, Rives, called Compliment.

It's edgy, witty, and adorable all at the same time. you can find it here.

Needless to say, I've been inspired.

I've always loved the "beginning story" of how my husband and I met & fell in love.

as Winston Churchill so eloquently puts it .....

"History will be kind to me for I intend to write it."

our history has been very kind to us.

remembering your history helps your future.

remembering your history with someone you love

is like taking a Delorean to your beautiful past.

I'm no Rives....but if you will, indulge me.

~

I noticed you first, but you say you did.

Tall, redheaded- you stood above the rest.

You used your best Indiana Jones pick-up line to say,

"Your legs look great in that 90's blue flower dress."

I asked with a half smile, "Does your momma know you talk that way?"

You pressed on with "You remind me of an Edwin McCain song....."

I responded "I bet all the girls get that from you at some point along...."

You have that smile that got me from day one.

I love you didn't care about my history or where I came from.

love with you is laughing in the moonlight.

love with you is smiling.

love with you is an adventure.

love with you is forgiving the past and hope for the future.

love with you is the children we have.

love with you is letting the hard times make us stronger.

love with you is the life we have together.

I love you my redheaded irishman.
